The first Gold for SA at Cannes Lions 2017 goes to Y&R SA

Lions Health, now in its fourth year, celebrates creative excellence in health communications, creativity for personal well-being and an inspired approach to healthcare.

The Gold Lion was awarded to the haunting Surfshack Surf Outreach film, ‘Chasing the Dragon’ which depicts how the sport of surfing can help youngsters escape the clutches of drug addiction.

“Winning the Gold is a massive achievement, so congratulations to everyone involved at Y&R South Africa and 7Films,” comments Graham Lang, Chief Creative Officer of Y&R South Africa and Africa. “Our collaboration with Surfshack began in 2015 when a simple CI brief came into our Cape Town studio. It evolved into something much bigger…it has been incredible to tell the story of how young lives can be changed when they are channelled through the timeless wisdom of the ocean. This project would not have been possible without the vision and commitment of the remarkable people at 7Films,” he concludes.
