When we come together, we can amaze the world

In 2017, MTN answered the call to be the sponsor of the Springboks. It was to enhance the connection of South Africans to the Springboks, who have a history of uniting us as a nation. MTN is now calling on all South Africans to answer the call and support the Springboks in their own way. Our task is to bring this mission through different campaign elements, building up to the 2019 Rugby World Cup. #AnswerTheCall is a vehicle we will use to let the Springboks know that we support them no matter what.

When we come together, we can amaze the world. For instance, on 24 June 1995 when the Springboks won the World Cup, they ignited the spirit of unity, showing us that what we have within brings us together. Since then, we have rallied behind the Springboks in our own way.

One of our many campaign elements is ‘The Sounds the Call Series’. It is an MTN production that takes a deeper look into the calls that were made and the people that answered them, thereby bringing to life the Springbok story. This is a call on ordinary South Africans to show their support for the Springbok team in their own authentic way.

We did not want to tell the stories in the orthodox documentary style, so we partnered with Darling films, who have a wide variety of directors. Each story can be seen from a different director’s eye, depending on the strengths that reflect to their own ways.

We have also sourced and curated a range of additional content that will be used on social channels and on micro sites. These will consist of actual recordings, original photographs, interviews etc., which we will collate.

There is more that brings us together than sets us apart, and this is essentially what we are asking South Africans to realise. By acting as one to contribute to the Springbok story, this campaign will awaken the Springboks connection, which lives in all South Africans, ultimately pushing the team to victory in 2019. We are calling on all South Africans to bring to life their connection to the Springboks in any way possible, may it be painting a wall, baking a cake, knitting a flag or even turning a local park into a fan park. Anything really.

If we answer our call as individuals, then we create the power of a bigger calling that triggers the South African movement to get behind the Springboks.
